Music by Stephen Schwartz, writer of smash hit musicals ‘Wicked’ and ‘Pippin’. Godspell was the brainchild of John-Michael Tebelak, who based the story on the Gospel of St Matthew. Featuring a swag of great songs, Godspell deals with the last days of Jesus, and includes dramatized versions of several well-known parables. And yet it is something more, a demonstration of joy, and a celebration of the family of man.

The interpretation of the musical was excellent, and I enjoyed the performers. However, the idea of turning the gospel of St Matthew into a musical just didn't do it for me. There is no storyline as such, so no drama, nothing to look forward to. It was the most interesting scripture lesson I had ever had, but the musical itself - meh.
