Foreign Bodies

Foreign Bodies

An exciting new Australian play by Andy Harmsen. Featuring Marika Marosszeky and Alan Chambers and directed by Chris Baldock. Set in a Mumbai hotel, Martin comes face to face with his secret desire, Arizona Snow, a world-famous ex-porn star. The power and allure of sex makes way for a battle of wills that goes beyond desire and towards something much more dangerous. By turns intoxicating and thrilling, this Australian premiere will leave you breathless.

9 PERFORMANCES ONLY!

Warning: The play contains violence, nudity, sexually explicit action and language. Adults Only.

excellent show, thank you so much

I also found it a little confusing but enjoyable. The female character especially good and the male character I found to be less realistic. I loved the quirky little venue but wouldn't want to view anything too long due to the seating arrangements.

Great little theatre. Confronting story. Sometimes disjointed. Worth the effort.

I'm a great fan of the director Chirs Baldlock ( of mockingbird theatre )And he had done a good job given the limitations of the play.
The relevance to the Mumbai setting was never developed & left us with questions, more confusing than curious.
The female character was well acted but male actor appeared a caricature of an imagine adolescent boy at times. He felt unnatural and some quick turns in characters weren't believable. Anyway it was still enjoyable as I like to see new & unusual stories told In local theatre.
Some might object to the use of the sacred Islamic call to prayer as a background soundtrack, and the Hindu deity Nataraj image as casual backdrop to all the porno-talks as mere provocation for provocation sake while others might want to argue the need for art to forcefully de-sanctify religion, both r valid arguments. There is an argument to be had about the free speech & our right to offend ( as per our attorney general George Brandis) and mutual respect to other cultures beliefs... And how should we as outsiders mount a
Critique of others believes.... Yes this is a valid issue in a globalised world but to be expected to believe that a porn star will be hired in india to play a Goddess , kali or otherwise is simply inconceivable to anyone even with a scant familiarity with the culture the play writ deals with. Perhaps better research & cultural consultation would have resulted In a superior play. Still for all I was happy I got to see it. Anything Chirs Baldlock does I always see.

The performances were engrossing and the actors should be commended for this in a venue where the audience would appear very imposing! The actual storyline tenuously linked to Mumbai and the tragic events that occurred there confused me! Thus play could have been set anywhere in the world and did not require the link to these events as they were irrelevant to the main subject! Overall an enjoyable experience that provoked thought on perception.

Tightly written, honest and dramatically believable play. Marika Marosszeky and Alan Chambers handled the constant intensity of this two hander with ease. The intimacy of the venue itself a test of any actor. Great effort by all involved. Highly recommended.
