UMRIKA

UMRIKA

UMRIKA is the new Bollywood feel-good movie.

Written and Directed by Prashant Nair (Delhi in a Day), UMRIKA (Hindi for America) stars Suraj Sharma (The Life of Pi, Million Dollar Arm, season 4 of Showtime’s Homeland) as Rama. Co-stars include Tony Revolori (SAG Awards nominee for The Grand Budapest Hotel). A small village in India is invigorated when one of their own travels to America (aka, UMRIKA) and details his adventures through letters home, sparking community debate and inspiring hope. But when the letters mysteriously stop coming, his younger brother Rama (Suraj Sharma) sets out on a journey to find him.

With the help of his best friend Lalu (Tony Revolori), Rama retraces his brother’s path to find himself charting one of his own. Set in the mid-1980s,UMRIKAis a funny and meaningful story of the lengths taken to realize one's dreams.

Intelligent and entertaining.

Umrika provides a refreshing look into the hopes and desires which motivate and propel one's activities, in the belief that a better life exists much further afield than in one's own community. This story is both warm and entertaining.

Ticket stated "at participating cinemas" but no idea where and couldn't find where it was playing in Perth to use the tickets, logged back onto the site and found I'd missed it after only having the tickets for 10 days. So can't really comment on the movie.

A captivating well thought out direction by Prashant Nair depicting the hope and strength of Indian village boy in realizing the dream of setting foot in America(Umrika). Set in the 80s perfectly given attention to details. It was both funny and sad yet positive in the end. Sure to encourage a thought provoking post movie discussion over a drink. I definitely recommend this. Watching this in Hayden Orpheum was amazing. Thanks for the tickets on the house :)
