Cunning Little Vixen

Cunning Little Vixen

Pacific Opera’s production of The Cunning Little Vixen will be presented at Sydney Grammar School’s brand new state of the art theatre, New Hall on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 October 2015.

The Cunning Little Vixen is a philosophical reflection on the uneasiness of man's relationship with the natural world and his own nature. Told through the intertwining stories of a beautifully glorious vixen and the Forester who attempts to tame and contain her, the opera is at once playful and charming, sexy and deeply tragic.

Janácek's opera was first performed in 1924, and was based on a comic strip story. It was inspired by his study of animals, and his undying, unrequited love of a much younger woman. With a huge romantic score, it is lush, dramatic and intense.
Pacific Opera are also proud to announce the appointment of Simon Kenway as Artistic Director. Simon Kenway is an established and highly respected orchestral and operatic conductor.

He has held posts as Principal Chorus Master of Opera Australia, Musical Director for Opera in the Vineyards, Opera by George and Opera under the Stars in Broome, and Conductor and Chief Vocal Coach for the Sydney Conservatorium Opera School.
Under the baton of internationally renowned conductor Alex Briger, acclaimed director Michael Campbell and performed by Pacific Opera’s cast of outstanding young singers, the opera will be performed with a children’s chorus from Sydney Grammar School and in full symphonic glory with the Sydney Youth Orchestra.

We sat upstairs in the gallery which made viewing the performers on the walkway around the orchestra very difficult and would have appreciated an interval as the wooden seats made things uncomfortable... That said The actors and costumes were were brilliant as was the orchestra.. would recommend this show if played in a different theater ... still an enjoyable evening

A mixed evening - very disorganised start to the night with general seating resulting in many people walking back up and down levels of stairs to find vacant seats and little direction from house staff: orchestra was brilliant, a wonderful feature out front of stage and easy to see: leads vocals were fantastic but it was very challenging to understand any of the words. If you were sitting to the side of the theatre it was very difficult to see what was happening anywhere but bang smack centre stage and lighting design resulted in full lights straight into our eyes several times. Sets were innovative and colourful.
