Anouilh’s ANTIGONE is a powerful reinterpretation of Sophocles’ tragedy questioning our ethics and notions of power, politics and individual liberties.
Starring the striking Ellen Williams as Antigone and NIDA graduate Neil Modra as King Creon, we follow the rebellion of the “little sparrow” against the pragmatic king, as Antigone is determined to bury her brother despite the royal ban.
This ANTIGONE is a unique piece of theatre, oscillating between farce and tragedy, between the modernity of its language, set and costumes and the classicism of its structure, personified by a Greek Chorus echoing key ideas of the play in the original French.
“I want everything of life and I want it now! I want it total, complete; otherwise I reject it!”
