St Petersburg Ballet | SWAN LAKE
Hailed from London to Paris, the internationally acclaimed St Petersburg Ballet will commence their first Australian tour in fifteen years in Adelaide at Her Majesty’s Theatre from 7 – 11 December 2016. The Company will present their full-length classic production of the world’s most loved ballet, Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. Tickets go on sale from Friday 15 July through all BASS outlets and BASS online.
First performed in St Petersburg in 1895, the immortal and enchanting Swan Lake, with its unrivalled ‘white acts’, its spectacular and dramatic ballroom scene, sublime music and deeply moving story, is the ballet that towers above all others.
Founded in 1994, The St Petersburg Ballet is renowned globally not just for its beautiful Vaganova trained dancers but also for its stunning, grand, full-length productions. The sixty strong Company travels internationally complete with breathtaking scenery and magnificent costumes. It is the only classical ballet company in the world that is completely independent of government financial aid or sponsor funding. The Company has in its repertoire the classical masterpieces Giselle, Don Quixote, La Bayadère, Les Sylphides, Paquita, The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty. The incredibly popular company is in such demand that it gives 200 to 250 performances every year.
As producer of the tour with decades of experience in presenting quality Russian ballet in Australia, Andrew Guild said, ‘The St Petersburg Ballet is truly traditional Russian classical ballet at its very best. This is the real thing, grand-scale Russian ballet. A complete classical full-length work. If you see only one ballet in your life, let it be this.’

Absolutely wonderful performance, my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this performance. For us the only thing which could be improved would be the venue, as it is very large and we realise that this is to cater for large crowds. We just felt that this level of performance would be best suited to a more intimate venue. We were enthralled from start to finish.

I attended the Australian ballet's performance of Cinderella the night before (it is definitely the ballet season!). I considered the Australian ballet's dancers to be more technically superior, but the Russian style ballets are much more spectacular and full of pomp and circumstance. Wonderful show overall.

I can honestly say I had a very enjoyable time out at the ballet last night. The St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre's performance of Swan Lake was impressive and some of the dancers were truly artistic athletes.
Our very first Ballet performance...breathtaking & very moving. Beautiful is an understatement!
