I'm from Up Over
Michelle needed to get out. Now. Leaving her two home bases in the coastal rainy cities of Vancouver and Seattle, she chose Australia on a whim. (A location she knew only slightly better than Mars.)
With a few bucks, a journal, and a website, Michelle embarked to document her journey as a “Northy” ambassador traveling through “the other New World” amongst the young adults and caravaners on the backpacker trail.
With cultural awkwardness as her regular companion, nothing is too sacred to explore or expose. Politics, religion, dialect, customs, and history…they are all on the table for questioning. And along the way, she too becomes the subject of Aussie curiosity.
Part acting, part TED talk, and part social media event, I’m From Up Over is Michelle’s fringe debut, and holds a mirror up to her southern hemisphere cousins and also…herself, in this delayed coming-of-age tale about what makes us who we are anyway.
