ANTILLIA

ANTILLIA

All that separates us are walls.
Walls between classes, walls between races, walls between neighbours.
The walls of Antillia are all that’s holding it together, and they’re about
to be torn down.

Waxing Lyrical is in no doubt that its 2015 premiere of Liam Ormsby’s Antillia will be the most important play of this year’s Adelaide Fringe. Set on an imagined island not dissimilar to our own, Antillia is the story of a country surrendered to fear; a claustrophobic land where walls built to keep danger out are the only thing keeping it in. The inhabitants of this self-imposed prison have built walls and walls within these walls; their isolation from the rest of society has turned them into prisoners of their own anxieties and fears and the thin veil of order, the laws of a land devised to keep the peace, have now become kindling. Fuel for a fire that will consume it all.

Antillia is a contemporary thriller that looks at the climate of the world not through a political lens but a human one. It is a story of five people and the one drive that propels each of them through the mind field of a society steeped in terror; it is an exploration of fear - the sole provoker of everything ...

“...the starting pistol that launches every choice and every decision”

By the hand of local playwright Liam Ormsby, under the meticulous direction of Toby Rice and the brilliant performances of Kieran McNamara, Krystal Brock, Vince Fusco, Georgie Pile and Adam Cirilo; Waxing Lyrical is proud to present an increasingly pertinent work devised, staged and performed entirely by South Australian artists. Antillia must not be missed by anyone.

Antillia opens February 11 and will run through to February 21st
