PLAYFEST - MELBOURNE’S FIRST ‘BIG DAY OUT’…FOR KIDS

“Kids' music is not what it used to be, it's been replaced with a hipper, more diverse crowd of bands, with a seemingly common goal of closing the gap between cutesy-wootsy, tear-your-hair-out kiddy lyrics and something parents actually want to listen to." Time-Out Kids New York

THE EVENT:
• Melbourne’s first ‘big day out’ for little people – a two day music and arts festival at the iconic Sidney Myer Music Bowl

• Intended to set a new benchmark in kids entertainment – instilling a love of quality music and the festival atmosphere in kids under 12 – and reigniting it in their parents

• Idea was conceived by three Melbourne mum’s unwilling to put their own festival days behind them and convinced there was a gap in Melbourne’s market for an event that truly appealed to both kids and parents

• The women ran a crowdfunding campaign to seed fund the project – one of the most successful crowdfunding campaigns for a children’s event in Pozible’s history (raised over $38,000)

• PlayFest will feature three stages of music, a storytime zone, a zone for kids under 3, an area for kids with special needs featuring BrickFEST! (lego) and the Variety Swing, arts and music workshops and more

• The event will feature a mix of kids’ favourites such as the Bananas in Pajamas, members of Yo Gabba Gabba, former Wiggle Sam Moran and Play School hosts Alex Papps & Abi Tucker, but will also feature more heavily a selection of quality, established acts and bands that are truly committed to introducing kids to quality, ‘real’ music that doesn’t have to be dumbed down or trumped up to get them excited.

Toddler had fun at cabaret big top as it's more up close. Although stage shows has a platform for the kids to stand right in front, it still feel a little distant and toddler didn't enjoy it. If I were to pay full price for the event, I would have been disappointed as I expected more from the event. It's very expensive for family tickets. As an adult, I wouldn't want to pay for such as expensive ticket when the event is only meant for kids. Overall, the whole event felt a little bit flat.

Enjoyable day had by all. Great to have personalities easily recognised by toddlers. However, had I paid the full price for the event, I would've been a little disappointed as I think the entry price was too high especially given children were at adults prices as well.
