Returning for its second year, the Emirates British Film brings to screens a mix of wildly entertaining comedies, cinematic adaptations, first-time features, and award-winning titles. This year’s program will showcase the best and brightest Brit talent with an exceptional program of 15 brand new films plus the top picks of British “Swinging Sixties” cinema in a specially curated section Six from the 60s.
Highlight of the festival including Opening Night Queensland Premiere of TESTAMENT OF YOUTH, an epic coming of age story about love, loss and war based on Vera Brittain’s memoirs of World War I and starring Alicia Vikander (Anna Karenina, A Royal Affair) and Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), MR TURNER, which shines the light on British painter J.M.W Turner, one of the most prolific painters of the 19th Century; ‘71, the groundbreaking debut feature from Yann starring the outstanding Jack O’Connell and Closing Night film THE IMITATION GAME starring Benedict Cumberbatch. The Festival will also present the top picks of British Sixties cinema in Six from the 60s, which will include ZULU (1964); IF...(1968); THE ITALIAN JOB (1969); DARLING (1965); BILLY LIAR (1963); and A HARD DAY'S NIGHT (1964).
