The Legend of Luke Kelly 30th Anniversary Tour
Celebrating the memory of a true Irish musical legend in Australia.
On 30th January 1984 it is said that the whole of Dublin grieved the early death of Luke Kelly. He has left an indelible mark as being the greatest folk artist of the 20th Century and his music is widely regarded as one of Ireland's cultural treasures.
Dublin singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Chris Kavanagh was born and raised on Irish music and has been singing Irish folk songs since he was three years old. He learned to play the piano by ear when he was five and his love of Luke Kelly's music led him to learn to play the 5 string long neck banjo in 2001.
Over the past twelve years he has amazed audiences following powerful sell-out performances in prominent Irish venues such as Vicar Street & the Cork Opera House with the regular attendance of the Kelly family.
Chris bears a remarkable resemblance to Luke, while his singing talents capture the depth and passion of the great man. He is joined on stage by very accomplished musicians Joe Finn & Michael Howard who all consider it an honour to bring Luke's memory to the stage in this ultimate tribute to the King of Balladeers.
In November 2011 Chris stood in with folk legends The Dubliners on their German tour and also made a guest appearance on their 50th anniversary concert DVD recorded in Vicar Street.

This was awesome, Paddy Casey was a great supporting act, a stunning voice and the mostly 30-ish Irish crowd went wild with enthusiasm. Then Chris came on and sang with total focus, energy and passion. Wow - amazing. The music from Joe and Michael was hauntingly sweet as well as fun. The tri brought the house toits feet, singling, clapping and dancing in the rows. Thankyou for brining us such amazing entertainment.
