Teleny

‘the only way to avoid temptation is to yield to it…’

Adapted by BARRY LOWE from the novel attributed to OSCAR WILDE and his CIRCLE

A lusty and delicious tale of sensual delicacies, fused with romance and scandal, Teleny is a stylish and playful nosedive into the erotic underbelly of 1920s Parisian life. United by an exhilarating dance of shared telepathic visions, Camille Des Grieux a young rich businessman and Rene Teleny, a beautiful foreign piano prodigy, embark on an obsessive affair that leads them through a labyrinth of sexual adventures and awakened passions that culminates in a climax of deceit and tragedy.

Good show, top notch acting. I'm afraid I was not ready for the nudity.

I had been well prepared for this event as I knew the only female actress in the play - I thought it was beautifully done, the lighting created a whole beauty around the erotic scenes, the parts were well played and was thrilled to be there to share with other members of the audience.

Great to see challenging material brought to life. Always good to get insight into different periods of time and different cultures and sub-cultures.

I found the play extremely interesting and edgy. The scenes were played with great care and although the nudity and erotic nature of some could offend, i found it tastefully done. A very enjoyable and thought provoking play. Bravo!

Very interesting,a different genre

Although the description said explicit sex scenes and nudity, I didn't realise how full on it would be, but I still enjoyed it. The play had an interesting story line. My favourite scene was when they did a love scene on the piano which was like a beautiful dance.

Like many of the comments above I found the performance confronting. This is where it pays to do your homework sometimes. For the most part, one of the wonderful things about On The House is the opportunity to go to lesser known events and to go in good faith and be surprised. In this case - it was beyond surprise. Kudos to the actors, support cast and staging. Professionally it was a wonderful show. Subject matter, yes not for the faint hearted and some may struggle. All the more applause for the actors because of it.

Great venue and great performance.

The play was great! More than a gay love story. Acting was fabulous, and although some element of the narrative were lost, some clearly were not! Confronting for some, I am sure. For many maybe!

Interesting Wasn't what I expected but it wasn't cliched which kept me engaged. The actors wee really professional and you could see their training show through their discipline to the arts. I thought it was a highbred between the story of O and a mystery romance but between men and the struggle for sexual identity. Well done a very brave undertaking in an ever growing more conservative world in insecurity.

Teleny is a pornographic novel, first published in London in 1893. This play is as confronting.
