For his latest production, Flamencura, the highly-skilled virtuoso talents of Paco Peña are further explored in the art of flamenco - "Flamenco rhythms are vital; the compás is like a primal pulse, like the rhythm of the earth... and everyone must get to feel it!"
Paco Peña will premiere his most recent production in Australia in April 2014, proudly presented by Abstract Entertainment. The New York Times declared that "Mr Peña is a virtuoso, capable of dazzling an audience beyond the frets of mortal man. He combines rapid-fire flourishes with a colourist's sense of shading; this listener cannot recall hearing any guitarist with a more assured mastery of his instrument."
It should come as no surprise that readers of America's Guitar magazine judged Paco Peña as best flamenco guitarist of the year for five consecutive years.

Brilliant performance. Lacked the visual spectacle of other flamenco performances we have seen, but great music and incredible dancing
Spanish entertainment is quite new to me, and this was a great introduction. The dancing was wonderful, the venue was great (of course), and the musical expertise was astonishing. I can't say I've quite warmed to the singing, and I missed out on the stories and the drama by not knowing the language (perhaps translated subtitles above the performers for newbies like me?)
Similar feeling to other reviewers. The guitarists were outstanding, the dancers had moments of greatness but the atmosphere at the State Theatre borders on non-existent. Dark floor, dark background and dark costumes most of the time did not allow the dancers to be fully appreciated. I can't get into the flamenco style of singing, but I knew to expect that. The staging at that theatre really needs some improvement. I could make the same comment about almost every production I have seen there. Nonetheless it was a privilege to experience the talent of the world's best flamenco guitarist and his Company.

Fantastic performances - loved it - however as stated above venue was poor lighting was so-so and there was absolutely no backdrop or atmosphere created by use of props. Contrast this to performance we saw in Barcelona with elevated stage colourful backdrop.
